Sane & Smart from the Outside - Wonder Woople Larissa D'Sa

$

0

The ‘Wonder Woople’ series features users who are passionate about fashion or food or both. They are the people who spot new, interesting  things and love self-expression. They are our tastemakers, influencers and curators.

Meet Larissa D’Sa - A sucker for art, design and craft! Hand her a piece of paper and she’ll give you a rose. Larissa is a graphic designer and illustrator, also the founder of We Love Customade. This incredible beauty is a workaholic and loves working 24/7, but only for herself of course! Larissa also considers watching movies or television and afternoon sleeping, only wastage of time (I think my heart broke right there). Buuuuuut, then some movies allow for a double standard as she says some remarkably awesome movies do not count as a waste of time!

Larissa is currently shooting for her upcoming Youtube channel showcasing her work and DIYS for the audience. A freelance model and actor, she may look sane and smart and all that from the outside but you will never know when she could break into a sudden outburst of laughter and change your complete opinion about her.

The most interesting bit about Larissa? She finds dogs eating garbage, cute, because every dog reminds her of Tazz - her dog. She also finds black gutter rats adorable, only because her guinea pig is also a rodent. Rest assured you know that this woman is one helluva animal lover. She also loves glitter and challenges you to meet her and not spot one glitter particle somewhere on her face. Also being a tattoo artist, Larissa feels all fierce and robust automatically, she says.

Wall art by Larissa.

"Haiiyaa!" This is one high spirited fille!

Ask her what she thinks fashion is….

"Fashion to me means color & crazy. Anything that’s standard, is so not for me. Some at college called me Lady Gaga. Then later they got used to it and called me Larissa."

Let’s see what Lady Gaga a.k.a Larissa has to say to us…

What is the craziest thing you have bought?

I’ll make that THINGS: 1. I purchased tazos (Cheetos) from a friend when I was 10 years young. I spent 21 Rs and I still regret cuz I could instead watch the circus for the second time with a friend. And still have 1 rupee left for pepsi cola.
2. Size 38 shoes. When my feet are size 40.

If you could splurge on one thing, what would it be?

If this was a fastest finger first kind of a question i would say : Travelling! I love visiting places. Maybe take a few months off and travel to wherever my private aircraft takes me.
if you ask me to be practical : GOLD! i would get a good resale and gold molars in my old age.

Which song is on loop on your iPod right now?

Frankly, i have no music in my phone, i don’t have an iPod and i’m very un-updated with what’s new in the music industry. But i hate this song “blue hain paani” and “Honey Singh”.

If you were given a choice between going Street shopping vs. Shopping at malls, which one would you pick?

Depends on what my budget is! But when it comes to shopping, i always buy what looks best on me. be it buying from the streets or malls. What’s important is “how you carry it” than “Which brand are you wearing”. For me, a brand is not important. the color, the combo and the style is.

Your favourite shopping destination?

Sawadika! Bangkok. Cheapest and trendiest. Plus they are all short, making me feel like some supermodel.

Who would you like to see most on Wooplr?

Haha myself! I would like to make some space and give in some time to upload atleast once every three days. Not as a job ofcourse, but cuz this is something I’m totally missing!

What is the most bizarre dish you have ever had?

Kacchi kairi with brick powder. That was mango pickle for me, back when I was 6 years young.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

Teleporting! I hate travelling to Andheri.

Apple pie or Jalebi?

Jalepie

Schnappes or Breezer?

Cutting chai.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

BOTH! I hate your options !

Walking Dead or Mad Men?

I haven’t watched either but if it were literal, I would prefer Mad Men cuz I’m scared of ghosts and I love mads. Hello crazy.

Shoes or Bags?

Bagshoes.

Benedict Cumberbatch or Zac Efron?

Soft corner for Zac Efron cuz I grew up watching him play basketball on my cupboard poster <3

What are your guilty pleasures?

Unnecessary purchases and unnecessary food intake. <nom nom>

In this post we give you the 40 best selfies on Wooplr. Love them, hate them; you definitely can’t ignore them! And here we go rolling out the selfie red carpet. Drum roll please…

1. The Quintessential Pout!

Call it the Duckface, call it a pout or call it just a striking pose, folks just can’t stop themselves from this particular one. And the best bit? We love it the more we see of it!

Swati Dandotiya sports the most epic selfie accessory - the pout!

image

Aviva Bidapa carries off the duck face…. almost! And manages to look absolutely fabulous while doing it. <sigh>

image

Naina Ruhail flashes her uber famous pout! In a car! You might wanna follow up with her Car Selfie listed below…. =)

image

2. The Shopaholic Selfie

They scream out a good  fashion sense and the passion for shopping! Do you ove them? We definitely do!

Pallavi Ruhail has an easy going shopaholic selfie! What’s not to love in this mirror selfie?

image

Sanchari Paul pulls off the Trial room Selfie!

image

Shopaholic much? Or not enough? Worry not, Jahnobi clicking that quick mirror selfie is quite an inspiration for the shopper.

image

3. The Mirror Selfie

Home to the best & the wackiest selfies, the mirror selfie is just so you can see yourself pose and click when you feel happy. Through the process hopefully one notices the slight bit of narcissism attached to the act but then again, I’m sure everyone loves ‘em!

We love Aleena's casual Sunday morning shopper selfie too!

image

Chahat Paul pulls the glam quotient up that high with a typical Saturday night pre-party selfie!

image

And Tamasree rocks the boat in a kickass mirror selfie!

image

Aashna Rao seems quite unsure about the selfie, but we definitely would give her a +1.

image

Eshna Kaur pulls off a demure mirror selfie.

image

Mansi Shah pulls off the mirror selfie. Glam look? Check! Fancy Camera? Check! Looks that could kill? Triple check!

image

4. The Car Selfies

(Taking the selfie for a spin!)

I’m driving. And I look like a boss while I am driving!

These selfies are tirelessly tedious but well they’re regulars. You see them, and you can’t get enough of them! And if you’re lucky you get to see the best of the selfie car as well! Men? You got something to keep an eye out for!

We love selfies in a car. Especially when done as well as Naina Ruhailpulls them off!

image

We love how they seem all easy, breezy and not so posy. Specially when they’re as unassuming as this one by Anupriya DG

image

Speaking of car selfies, how could we not have this one from Pallavi Ruhail!!?

image

5. The Auto Rickshaw Selfie

Shuddh desi style, this one captures the melting pot that’s India. The best styles shot at the most interesting moments, sans the scenic Swiss setting. You got the wind in your hair, but you have also got the bumpy auto ride to thank for the multiple clicks!

Nilu Yuleena Thapa looks gorgeous in this kickass autorickshaw selfie!

image

And Karishma Singh pulls it off in apna desi ‘Auto’!. A simple, classy, self loving selfie! =)

6. The Bus Selfie

(Imma take public transport, yo!)

Enough said, we believe!

Hells yes! Take a look at this pop of colour in a regular humdrum bus - presented byMadhu Lata, selfie style!

Tamasree Ray Chaudhuri makes pictures glow in the dark. We do appreciate that tangy red in the picture!

image

Urvashi Choudhury pulls a minty spring selfie!

image

9. The “I’m a Desi” Selfie!

There’s something to be said for a person who can pull off the Indian selfie without much trouble. This one’s tricky with the multiple pieces of clothing that most ethnic pieces have got going on. But then again, the effort is worth it, right?

Krutika Joshi pulls a stunner of an ethnic selfie!

image

When talking of selfies, look for Tanya Nambiar. Singer, fashionista and happy go lucky selfie lover. She pulls of an ethnic click with oomph so thick you can cut it with a knife!

image

And this one from Wooplr’s selfie princess, Tamasree Chaudhari!

image

Fatemeh Bagheri accessorizes herself just right for a… Selfie!!!

image

10. Put your best face forth for… The Frontal Selfie!

It’s a face forward attack. What do you think? We just think you hide all the other faces but the pretty ones!

Need a bit of summer around you? Namita Gautham gives you summer in a selfie with her love for neon.

image

Scarlett Rose poses with some pretty Flowered Hair Apparel

image

Anjali Menon sports an easy smile after making her purchases!

image

The give-away selfie. Point to be noted Roxanne - your sunglasses shoe us exactly who’s clicking this one! =) Then again who wouldn’t want one while chilling in the pool?

image

11. The No Face Selfie!

Does this one need any explanation at all? Hells no!

Angel Chawla does a kickass no facer! We love Spongebob!!

image

12. The Mantastic Selfie

And if you thought only women do the famed selfie, let’s go through a really interesting reality check. Our male Wooples do take quite a bit of pride in their selfies as well!

Allen George looks dapper in a tuxedo and can’t help but click himself!

image

Uday Shanker seems thoughtful. To click or not to click - that is the question!

image

Not just girls who want to have fun eh? Khevan is all ready to tip ‘em hat at the ladies!

image

And Abhay who treats his selfies with quite a tad bit formality!

image

What do you think? Are you ready to take a selfie? Well, then go get your best pout ready, find a mirror, grab a camera and go nuts!

Selfies, like smiles, hugs & humans come in all shapes and sizes. Some feel good, some look good, and some just don’t know what’s for their good.

Lately lots of feeds are pretty much saturated with selfies - the mirror selfie, the bathroom selfie, the bedroom selfie, the have you seen the good ‘side’ of me selfie, the car selfie, the groupie, the pre-party selfie, the hangover selfie, the -oh-mi-gawd-I-lurve-you-so-much selfie and well, the much famed, much tweeted, oscar selfie. They’re made for all ages and for all people. A selfie is not for someone special, the selfie is everyone’s quick fix!

And just in case you haven’t had enough, here goes the Selfie Anthem.

Watch, share & spread the #selfie love!

This week’s Wonder Woople is Gia Haobam. She’s a fashion blogger and one of Wooplr’s early adopters. You ask her to introduce herself and she says, “I am the most craziest person alive”, before laughing it off and revealing her very down to earth, humble nature.

Here’s more about Gia in her own words (printed verbatim)

Life has been good as a fashion blogger and I had a pretty fair share of success. From a management student to actually keep my feet firm into fashion has changed my life forever, who knew my passion would drive me nuts one day, I decided to start my own journal and share with all you folks out there. Some, who knew me and most of them who didn’t know me. That’s how my blog was born, “Dash Of Classic”, it is a part of my life that I cherish and enjoy the most.

image

1. What is the craziest thing you have bought?

An electric blue legging, this has been there in my wardrobe for my entire life (chuckle).

2. If you could splurge on one thing, what would it be?

Clothes, I would love to wear Elie Saab's gown. It's my childhood dream and hopefully should happen soon.

3. Which song is on loop on your iPod right now?

4. If you were given a choice between going Street shopping vs. Shopping at malls, which one would you pick?

Aha, I can’t choose at all, I love street and mall shopping. Both have different variety to cater to my different needs. And shopping is all about experimenting, getting the trends, mix and match which you can’t get at one destination. So yes, I have to hunt around according to my needs.

image

5. Your favourite shopping destination?

I love shopping in European countries, there is more variety and costs lesser than the Indian Market.

6. Who would you like to see most on Wooplr?

I already follow Pranita Mehta, she has quite a collection, from food, fashion to antique pieces.

And I would love to see Kangana Ranaut, her style is vogue, chic and she doesn’t feel scared to experiment.

7. What is the most bizarre dish you have ever had?

If I could have a superpower it would be that I could turn everything into pink because I love pink

9. Apple pie or Jalebi?

Apple pie for breakfast and jalebi for lunch :)

I prefer a breezer over everything else. It’s a “gentle woman’s drink” and it tastes good too!

11. Chocolate or Vanilla?

I love both. I mean who keeps these as choices?!

image

12. Walking Dead or Mad Men?

None I guess since I do not follow either of them.

13. Pretty Little Liars or Vampire Diaries?

Pretty little liars. Teen dramas are more fun than Vampire shows.

14. Big Bang Theory or How I Met Your Mother?

Big Bang Theory for sure.

15. Shoes or Bags?

Comfort matters, so I would go with shoes.

16. Benedict Cumberbatch or Zac Efron?

Zac Efron forever :)

We had a wonderful live Twitter chat with the wonderful team at SHEROES, a woman’s gateway to the finest opportunities, resources and conversations. They wanted to know about the Wooplr app, and we had this interesting exchange of tweets (and a chat) with them which has been republished here:

image

SHEROES: Introduce us to the app

Wooplr is a local product discovery platform for fashion, decor and food. It’s a fun and easy way to shop fro local stores based on your interests, location and social circle - all from your mobile.

You can recommend your favorite shopping finds and dishes using photos and see what others have recommended wherever you are!

SHEROES: How can brands benefit from Wooplr?

Wooplr empowers a brand to make every customer of theirs a brand evangelist.

Wooplr helps build a credible online presence for brands. This is especially true for SMBs which lack the marketing and financial muscle. Businesses / Brands via Wooplr can make their ‘genuine’ customers aware on what’s new at the store. Wooplr is one single place to handle their sales, marketing, credibility through web or the ease of a mobile phone.

SHEROES: How can Wooplr help me? Why is it fun?

It helps you make decisions related to shopping and eating out, a lot easier. There are no reviews on Wooplr – only recommendations. Wooplr helps you find products & dishes you love, from the people and stores that interest you.

SHEROES: What makes Wooplr a must-have app?

We recently launched the new ‘hyperlocal’ feature on our Android app. It allows users to locate the best places to shop & eat at, close to them. The ‘Nearby’ feature on the app is a unique local discovery facility that shows you what’s good nearby based on information from friends, shopaholics & foodies, wherever you are.

And soon, you can also start purchasing your favourte products directly from the Wooplr app (which is limited to a few businesses at present).

More from the Chat here

Wooplr has always supported women initiatives in the past through the Ring The Bell campaign as well as Wooplr’s very own Moustache Campaign. On those lines, Sheroes, is a great partner to help us show our support. We urge all the women folk on Wooplr to check out their resources.

We would like to thank the terrific team at SHEROES. We made some wonderful new friends there.

Gaurav: Growing up, our dad was always the one with the big voice, and his bellowing voice was pretty much what kept us in line during our school days! Over the years, and with us growing up, he hasn’t had to exercise that power with us, so today, I’d say he’s the Hulk but in his Bruce Banner state!

What’s the best piece of advice he’s given you?

Gaurav: With dad, it wasn’t one line or some advice he gave me that mattered, it was the example he set for both of us. His sacrifices for us and his love for family are something I strive to emulate. Coming from very humble beginnings in Mangalore and pretty much starting from nothing, both him and mom did everything they could to make us what we are today.

I remember them telling us often, that they would have nothing to leave behind for us, but they would have us try and learn as much as we can so when we get out into the world, we would be well equipped to more than just get by!

Geeth: The best piece of advice he’s given has been that every penny saved is a penny earned. That has been relevant throughout my life right from my schooling days until now in my professional life.

image

Are you a mumma’s boy or a daddy’s boy?

Gaurav: Depends on what time of day it is and how much in trouble I’m in!

Geeth: Well, I’m sure I’m a mumma’s boy… I guess

If you could take him anywhere for an entire day, where would you take him?

Gaurav: This is an interesting one, I’d take him to the New York Public Library Archives, and I have a story behind this. My dad is a journalist and ever since I can remember, I’ve had 7-10 newspapers delivered at home every morning, and while I would quickly glance through the sports pages and pore over the TV listings and attack the gossip sections, dad would read every article in every paper and even sit and compare them. Then he would mark out interesting articles that he wants to save for later and eventually, cut them out, hand write a little note around some and file these articles!

The NYPL Archives is what he does on steroids! and I think he would get a kick out of it, and while we’re there, we’d quickly check out some of the watering holes in Manhattan together!

It’s either that or the highlands of Scotland on a whiskey tour!

Geeth: I’d take him inside the Parliament house. That’s because politics is his passion, and he’s been writing about it since forever. I don’t think he has been inside the Parliament house in Delhi. Probably take him for an entire tour over there.

If you could buy any car for your dad, which one would it be?

Geeth: Well our Dad doesn’t drive and isn’t too fond of high speeds. Something that’s really comfortable at the back with a cup holder for his beer glass. One of those classy sedans perhaps?

Gaurav: A chauffer driven Bentley then!

image

Which is his favourite sport?

Gaurav: He isn’t such a big sports person, but I think he does enjoy catching a quick cricket game when he can.

Mention one thing you love most about your dad

Gaurav: As a dad, I love how he has adapted himself around his sons’ lives. Growing up, he kept us in line and I now see that it was a role he played to perfection. As time went by, he’s become someone we hang out with and I’ve even seen him at our concerts in the local pubs now!

Geeth: His selfless love. He hasn’t shown it out too many times, but I know he loves us to the core and would do anything under the sun for us. He has gotten Gaurav & I out from quite a few “tight” situations.

If you could take your dad out for an evening out where would you take him?

Gaurav: We’d have to create this place for him. It would be a place that served the best Mangalorean Bafat Pork and fish curries with the finest single malts, and then fruit ice cream to top it all off, while we listened to some 70s hits and Konkani Baila!

Geeth: Well this question makes me wonder why I haven’t taken him to TOIT yet. Should do that soon!

Every father has his own set of Dad Jokes or “DJokes”. What’s your dad’s favourite DJoke?

Gaurav: There are many, and these are actually real life anecdotes of his time following politicians around on their campaign trails, some of the crazy things they’ve said at press conferences and the like. He’d burst out laughing even before he could finish the joke and it would be a random Kannada or Tulu punchline that we’d more often than not, completely miss.

Anup J Kattukaran is partner and chief optimist at 1st December, a production house that specialises in ad films. He is also a wedding photographer, because he gets to sample some fantastic wedding food while on assignments and finds his ‘nirvana’ moments between the madness at Indian weddings. When he is not snapping at colourful weddings amongst other activities, he spends his time as a professional scuba diver and underwater photographer.

Anup loves Bangalore and his mother’s rice & sambar. He married the love of his life, Clarin, three years ago and recently became the father of an adorable baby boy, Adam Joseph Kattukaran. He talks about his new role, skills he has picked up and a few surprises along the way. Read on…

image

Transcript (printed verbatim)

Is he going to be a mumma’s boy or daddy’s boy?

As of now he is mumma’s boy. He is happiest when Clarin is around.

When I carry him, his biggest adventure is to pee on this man.

Your favourite moment with him so far?

My favourite moment was definitely when I saw him for the very first time.

I was completely gob-smacked and smitten by him. I was in the OT during the surgery with my camera. The doctor had to remind me to take the snap. And looking back at that moment, I realise that in the 8 years that my wife and I have known each other, of all the amazing things we have done together, Adam is the by far the best!

image

Baby Adam

What’s the most hilarious thing he’s done till now?

He makes a pouty shy face after he is done with his potty. It’s more cute than funny.

And this evening I was working on some images and he could not take his eyes off the women as I scrolled down the page. Boys will be boys I tell you :)

Every father has his own set of Dad Jokes or “DJokes”. What’s going to be your DJoke?

Adam is very adamant about sharing his apple.

If you and your son had a TV show together, what would it be called?

 Adam’s apple?! LOL

image

What did Father’s Day mean to you before your son was born? And what does it mean to you today?

My dad was my hero. He has been a huge inspiration in everything I do.

I would like my little nugget to feel the same about me.

What’s your favourite part of being a dad?

It’s really humbling to look at my little buddy and realise that I am a father now. It’s been a brilliant 40 days so far. He makes me feel complete and whole! It’s like he was that little missing link in my life.

It’s no wonder I call him “minime”. He is the smallest, most important part of me.

How will you be celebrating your first Father’s Day?

Drink a tall glass of milk with my son :)

Ashwini Ponnappa is an Indian Badminton player. She was a bronze medalist at the World Championships in 2011 with her doubles partner Jwala Gutta. She also an animal lover and avid traveler as is evident from her penchant for visiting animal parks and zoos. She’s currently working on helping street/stray dogs in India.

On shopping and hobbies

I listen to music a lot, and watch a lot of romantic movies! I also love to shop wherever I go and you will find me experimenting with new styles and colors. A few of my favourite brands are Promod, Pull & Bear, Zara.

The sports I play for fun are tables tennis, tennis and basketball. And of course hockey sometimes with dad and brother!”

She’s currently in Japan participating in the Yonex Open Superseries in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles events. Here the transcript of the email interview with Ashwini (printed verbatim).

image

Ashwini with her dad & mum

Are you a daddy’s girl or mumma’s girl?

As a kid I was more a daddy’s girl, now I’m more a mumma’s girl.

What’s the best piece of advice he’s given you?

My dad has always given me advice regarding my training and game. He used to travel with me for my matches when I was younger. One thing he’s always stressed on and still stresses on when he comes for my matches is doing a good warm up and cooling down after the match! Since he is a sportsperson himself, he knows what I need to do in order to play well. I’ve always liked having my dad coming for my matches and training me during the off season.

image

If your dad was a superhero, who do you think he had be?

He would be Superman!!

If you could buy any car for your dad, which one would it be?

I would buy him a Duster, as it’s spacious. My dad likes cars which have a lot of luggage space because of the amount of driving that is done back and forth between Coorg and Bangalore.

Which is his favourite sport?

My Dad’s an all-rounder. He not only played Hockey for the Karnataka State, but also played football, cricket, badminton & of course hockey, for RBI.

He likes playing Golf over the weekends at times.

image

Mention one thing you love most about your dad?

I love how my dad is always calm. He takes things as it comes and doesn’t worry too much.

One of the best things about my dad is how much he loves sports. It’s incredible how he can more or less play any sport. It’s always fun playing any sport with him.

If you could take your dad out for an evening anywhere where would you take him and why?

I’d take my dad to a place which has a lot of outdoor activities as he loves playing and being active. He loves bowling, playing golf, basically anything that brings out his competitive side.

Every father has his own set of Dad Jokes or 'DJokes'. What’s your dad’s favourite DJoke?

My dad doesn’t joke much, so I don’t know any Djokes! But he’s had his funny moments which makes the whole family laugh, when we think about it.

Here the transcript of the Father’s Day interview with Aviva (printed verbatim).

1. If your dad was a superhero, who do you think he had be?

Here’s the thing - my dad IS a superhero!

He is the most loving father, the best friend a girl could ask for, and the most inspiring mentor I’ve ever come across. If that isn’t a superhero, I don’t know what is.

2. What’s the best piece of advice he’s given you?

To be myself and to believe in myself like it was the only thing that mattered.

Aviva with her family

3. If you could buy any car for your dad, which one would it be?

A car - that’s easy!

It’s a Maybach Exelero 6 litre V12 RWD.

4. Which is his favourite sport?

His favorite sport? My dad has no time to watch sports. This I can guarantee!

5. Mention one thing you love most about your dad

The thing I love most about him is the way he treats people. He always tells me that your attitude toward another person is a reflection on your character and I couldn’t agree more.

Aviva with her father Prasad Bidapa

6. If you could take your dad out for an evening anywhere where would you take him and why?

If I could take my dad somewhere right now it would be Mykonos. My dad appreciates beauty and I know that he would be so happy there with just his family and the vibe.

7. Every father has his own set of Dad Jokes or “DJokes”. What’s your dad’s favourite DJoke?

You need to see my dad react to my friends and I eating pizza. It is possibly the funniest situation you could find yourself in. He hates junk food and his one liners about people who eat it is pure class.

A Father's Day Interview with Young Dad & Social Maven, Hrish Dhempe Thota

The Wooplr “Super Dad” series is brought to you in association with Gant in celebration of Father’s Day 2014.

image

Hrish Thota is a social media maven and a photo blogger from Bangalore who blogs about food, lifestyle and travel. He’s oft-quoted in press articles on issues related to blogging/social media. He has live blogged and tweeted many events like IPL, CLT20 in South Africa, among others. He’s currently working as a Senior Manager of Social Computing at Happiest Minds.

Here’s the transcript from the interview (printed verbatim)

Tell us about your son Reyansh

Reyansh is our first born. He is very inquisitive and explorative. He loves to meet new people and play with other kids of all shapes and sizes. He loves dogs and trains and likes to imitate the sounds they make!

He has just turned one but runs around the house trying to pull each and everything within his reach. He loves to mock ride a car and loves the wind in his hair when going in an auto rickshaw!

Is he a mumma’s boy or daddy’s boy?

I would say right now he is a mumma’s boy but he does like to spend a lot of time with me too. Only thing is that his attention has to be diverted whenever she is out of sight or he can pull down the roof with his screams, which you can expect with any kid of his age too!

image

Your favourite moment with him so far? And what’s the most hilarious thing he’s done till now?

Two of my favourite moments with Reyansh have been when I held him for the first time after his birth and when he tried to reach out to my wine glass when he was just 6 months old!. Both pictures exhibit my exuberance at becoming a dad and his naughtiness respectively!

Hilarious things he does is when he smiles shyly after farting and acting as if he doesn’t know who has farted! Also the funny faces he makes when imitating dog barking sounds.

 image

Every father has his own set of Dad Jokes or “DJokes”. What’s going to be your DJoke?

Don’t let the “bugs bunny” bite!

Reyansh’s nick name is Bunny :)

If you and your son had a TV show together, what would it be called?

Full House! I loved that TV show and I feel my son and I are quite a force to reckon with and bring down a full house if we want to, with our pranks and naughtiness!

What did Father’s Day mean to you before your son was born? And what does it mean to you today?

Before my son was born, Father’s Day meant wishing my dad on phone but I never realized what it really means to be a dad. Now that I’m a father myself, I understand the struggles my father faced to bring us up showcasing love and responsibility. So my respect, love and gratitude for my father has grown many folds after I became a father too.

image

What’s your favourite part of being a dad?

My favorite part of being a dad is when my son’s face lights up and he has a broad toothless (or bunny teeth) smile when I return back from a long and hard day at office. It cheers up my mood and I feel like, with him by my side, I’m ready to take on the world!

Keeping Father’s Day in mind, what is your message to all the young fathers out there?

I know many of my married friends who haven’t thought of becoming fathers yet as they are scared of the responsibility. But, I would like to give a message to them that fatherhood is one of the most blissful feelings in the world and you must certainly experience it once.

To those friends who have just become fathers, I would say that try and spend as much time with your children as possible as here are small people for whom you are their entire world.

How will you be celebrating your first Father’s Day?

This Father’s Day I will celebrate with my son Reyansh and my wife Sunitha by playing peek-a-boo game with him and making him piggy ride on me which he loves a lot. Of course, enjoying scrumptious food is a given as we are all foodies in the family!

Everyone Needs a BFF like Danish Sait: A Friendship Day Interview with Saad Khan & Danish Sait

The Wooplr “Besties” series is brought to you in celebration of Friendship Day 2014.

image

Danish Sait is a RJ, a popular emcee, and a comedian. You might also know him by his alter ego, ‘Nograj Saar’. And when he’s not pranking unsuspecting citizens, he’s busy hosting the Pro Kabaddi League.

Saad Khan is the founder of Centrestage, producer of THE IMPROV shows, an accomplished director who gave Bangalore its’ first Hindi film, Station, and a talented screenwriter. Some of his works have been screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

How long have you two been friends?

Danish Sait (DS): About two-and-a-half years.

What is Saad’s favourite word / line?

Danish Sait (DS): ahh… It’s “balls to you”.

The Hindi version of it actually. I’m not sure you can print that though. It starts with ‘L’ and ends with ‘L’

Saad Khan (SK): Bro, you got that spot on!

image

How did you both meet? When did you both hit it off?

Saad Khan (SK): I think it was after the rehearsal for an IMPROV show. That’s when we met first.

Danish: Yeah, we connected on the comedy note more than anything else. And Bangalore Urdu. Definitely. And also the fact that Saad calls his ‘Bestie’ as ‘Bro’! Today being Eid and all, it makes more sense!

Saad: (*laughs*) You know what, I guess we are both quite old school. You will never see us go like “hey, let’s take a selfie together”, “You are my bestie”, “We should go for movie tonight and then go to that coffee place I told you about”

Danish: (*laughs*) I see a Mount Carmel reference there!

Saad: (*laughs*) It was the “let’s take a Selfie" line wasn’t it?

What I mean is, as best friends, we don’t meet as often as the world would expect best friends to. We don’t feel the need to. We don’t have to “catch up” all time. It’s more about the moments we share.

Danish: That’s right. The first person I’d called after finishing my very first TV show was Saad!

The most ridiculous thing you two have done together

Danish Sait (DS): This interview.

Saad Khan (SK): There are a lot of stupid things we have done. Once in a Dubai mall, Danish was doing an impersonation of the sheikhs there - right in front of them! I was s***-scared someone would probably come beat us up. Or worse, end up in jail. Nothing happened though.

Danish: They think the whole word speaks like them.

Saad: That’s true.

And yesterday we hung around in Commercial street late into the night. I just stopped midway and shouted “Hey, this is Danish Sait. Who wants a photo with him?”

Danish: (*laughs*) Yeah, and quite a few snapped up with me! We were at there till 2am shopping for my Eid dress. I got myself a Pathani Kurta Pajama.

What’s Danish’s favourite colour?

Saad: Blue or black?

Danish: Black it is.

What’s Danish’s favourite Bollywood movie?

Saad: Queen?

Danish: Dude, I haven’t watched that movie.

Saad: Really? Well then, must be any of those male bonding movies. He likes them a lot like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Danish: Saad, how about you switch to Hollywood? It’s easier (*laughs*)

Saad: Got it. The Wolf of Wall Street
Danish: He’s right. I like movies where there’s a lot of cursing and swearing.

What’s Saad’s Bollywood song?

Danish: I know his favourite movie. It’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

He’s not the kind that trips on music. But yesterday, I played this song called Tamil Fever by Benny Dayal and he’s hooked on to it since.

Saad: True.

What’s Danish’s favourite TV show?

Saad: Family guy & Suits

Danish: I think you need to talk more about the show I’m doing right now.

Saad: What? Oh yes, and Pro Kabaddi League. Let’s get some free promotion out there huh!

What’s Saad’s favourite dish?

Danish: Any salad… and when he’s not being a fitness freak, anything under the sun. But Chinese is his favourite!

Saad: Bang on! I love Chinese.

Bangalore is already home to many fashion diehards. And this style-centric city played host to the Kingfisher ULTRA Style Week last Sunday at the grand Le Meridien.
The glamourous evening saw ace designers Poonam Vohra, Agni Mitra Paul, Jattinn Kochhar and Rocky S put up a spellbinding show for the fashion-forward gathering.
The show opened with Poonam Vohra’s exclusive “Utsav” collection. Captured here are some of the highlights from the spot

Designer Poonam Vohra with the show stopper, actress Tanvi Vyas
Next up was Kolkata based designer, Agni Mitra Paul. Now, this was one segment the crowd particularly enjoyed. The reason? As the models strutted down the ramp in ethnic Bengali inspired style, the music that DJ Rohit Barker played was particularly interesting. It was the hit song Didi by Khaled. Perhaps alluding to the Didi of Bengal - Mamata Banerjee!
Here are a few snapshots from her collection

Former Mrs India Reet Sahu (in the middle), opened the show!

The desginer Agni Mitra with the showstopper, former Miss India, model and actress, Parvathy Omanakuttan.

The fashion-obsessed crowd took a break and got right back for designer Jattinn Kochhar's Bleeding Lust collection.

The showstopper for Jattinn Kochhar was the drop dead gorgeous former Miss India and actress, Simran Kaur Mundi.

The grand finale saw celebrated designer Rocky S showcase his ultra glam Rocky Star-Resort collection

The showstopper was Bollywood actress, Evelyn Sharma who looked absolutely breathtaking in this creation by Rocky S.

We loved every bit of this glamourous evening! Until next time…

Interview with two best friends - Agratha and Prarthana

The Wooplr “Besties” series is brought to you in celebration of Friendship Day 2014.

image

Agratha Dinakaran is a Digital Strategist and a food blogger. She’s a complete foodie and bibliophile. And she’s traveled quite extensively you could explore new places (read eateries) by going through her food recommendations!

Prarthana Prakash is a marketing communications professional in an IT firm. She loves theater, has a passion for all things art and is a big animal lover. She’s got two lovely dogs - a dachshund and a cocker spaniel.

How long have you two been friends?

Prarthana: Since MBA. That was June 2009.

Agratha: It’s been 5 years!

How did you both meet? When did you both hit it off?

Agratha: It was in college, while pursuing our MBA. I was excited as she was the only other Arts student in my class full of engineers.

Prarthana: Agratha came and spoke to me for the first time, when I walked into class. She thought I was weird! It took us a while to hit it off, maybe a couple of weeks.

Have you both ever been after the same guy?

Agratha: HAHAHAHAHAHA! NO.
Our tastes in men don’t match. At all.

Prarthana: She’s right. We don’t like each other’s taste in men.

image

What’s the most ridiculous thing you two have done together?

Prarthana: Goa trip two years ago. Agratha was passed out and I slept through the noise and shenanigans. It’s a funny memory that has a lot of mystery till this day- because we still DO NOT know what happened that night - so it sounds like the most ridiculous thing we have ever done.

Agratha: Yup, but that was 4 years back. On that fated night in Goa, after tons of alcohol, we did some unusually ridiculous things that are best not shared on a public platform.

And NO, that’s not what you think happened.

Where do you both like to hangout together? What’s your favourite eatery?

Agratha:BOCA GRANDE! We used to practice our Dumb Charades there quite often and LOVED their Fried Golden Munches (yummy fried potato balls with cheese)

Prarthana: Yup, it was our favourite college hangout where we have literally spent every afternoon together. Ordering up Iced Tea with those Fried Golden Munches Agratha mentioned. We discovered it together and went into paroxysm of delight after the first bite

Describe each other in one word

Prarthana: Sexy

Agratha: Zany

image

If you two could go anywhere in the world together, where would it be and why?

Prarthana: Las Vegas. Because I really want to go there with her. She will know why when she reads this.

Agratha: I’ll say Amsterdam. We’d walk down the streets together, check out museums, appreciate art, visit the coffee shops and try some interesting brownies.

What’s your bestie’s favourite word / line?

Prarthana: You Bum!

Agratha: You Donkey.

…and I do love saying ‘Bum’ a lot!

What’s Agratha’s favourite colour?

Prarthana: Purple

Agratha: Yup, I love purple. Violet. Mauve. Well, they’re all from the same family. Prarthana loves Burgundy. And Reds.

What’s your favourite dish? One answers for the other.

Prarthana: Chicken Biryani.

Agratha: She’s right! I LOVE Chicken Biryani! I would readily sell my soul for a good Biryani.

Prarthana: She used to get it everyday in college.

Agratha: Not everyday! I hate sharing Biryani though.

Prarthana: …er, I guess you need to give an answer too, for me!

Agratha: Ah yes… Pratty loves her mum’s green gram curry. She used to bring it to college quite often and loves it.

Prarthana: My favorite is home made food. So anything at home and yes the green gram curry too!

What’s Agratha’s Bollywood song?

Prarthana: Sheila Ki Jawaani

Agratha: I love Sheila ki Jawani. It’s my ultimate go-to Bollywood dance track.

…and Prarthana’s?

Agratha: Sajna ji Wari Wari. She breaks into a random dance when she hears that track.

Prarthana: I do, I do!

image

What’s Prarthana’s favourite drink?

Agratha: She likes her Rose Wine. Something from Torres, if I remember correctly?

Prarthana: It’s a Margarita actually!

Agratha: What rubbish… I know you love you are a wine-o-holic. Stop bluffing Pratty!

What’s Agratha’s favourite TV show

Prarthana: Friends. And it’s my favourite too!

Which Bollywood actor makes you weak on your knees? Again, one answers for the other.

Agratha: Why Bollywood macha? Neither of us are big on that man.

Prarthana: Haha… She’s right!

And her favourite actor is Tom Hiddleston.

Agratha: She loves Hugh Jackman. She just LOVES the man. And I LOVE Tom Hiddleston. Sigh.

Prarthana: Undoubtedly

Sachin Bansal is the CEO and co-founder of Indian e-commerce giant, Flipkart. And along with his co-founder Binny, they have created India’s most valuable Internet company. In this interview, we ask him questions that explore their friendship, and a bond that has grown stronger over the years.

How long have you and Binny been friends?

We have been close friends for nearly 9 years now.

How did you both meet? When did you both hit it off?

We met at IIT Delhi where we studied together. But, we really interacted only after we moved to Bangalore in 2005 after graduation.

We were living close by and would hang out together often on weekends. We went on road trips with common friends and built a deeper friendship over time.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you two have done together

Starting Flipkart was a crazy thing to do at the time when we did. Almost everyone around us thought we were out of mind.

Describe Binny in one word.

Discerning.

Do you give birthday gifts to each other? More importantly, where do you get those birthday gifts?

Well, we haven’t exactly given each other birthday gifts.

We do make it a point to get together at midnight at the our friends’ (including each other) birthdays and cut a cake!

Where do you both like to hangout together?

We used to visit Stones in Indiranagar and Legends of Rock in Koramangala quite often. More recently it has been a few get togethers at Sathya’s in Koramangala and at Geoffrey in Royal Orchid.

If you two could go anywhere in the world together, where would it be and why?

To the moon!

Well, the day all people can start traveling to the moon that is.

Have you both ever been interested in the same girl?

No!
