What is it about vintage that makes us so obsessed? Is it because owning a vintage piece is like owning a part of history, is it because antiques look rustic, or could you tie it to something as simple and natural as nostalgia, a craving for the past?

British actress, Thandie Newton (Mission Impossible II, Crash, The Pursuit of Happyness) put it very aptly. She said,

Vintage is not only glorious and stylish, it’s also the way forward in terms of recycling. Whenever I go into great vintage stores, I wonder why we ever buy new things.

Over the past year, our Wooples have shared some beautiful vintage finds. Here’s a round-up of the top 10 vintage recommendations we absolutely loved.

Diana Mini - Freedom from Lomography India, Bangalore

Ruhi Sheikh (Republic of Chic) says,

I love shooting with my Lomo Camera: The Diana Mini is a 35mm teeny version of the retro medium format Diana camera and this particular beauty here is inspired by Japanese culture with its charming all over floral print. She’s kitsch, an eye-catcher and a conversation starter, believe me!

Pink Floyd Tin Tote from Bombay Merch, Mumbai

Ankit Sabharwal says,

This tin tote had been on my wishlist for a long time when I spotted this recently at the Comicon in Bangalore. The folks at BombayMerch were kind enough to give a discount on the rather steep price as it was the last piece they had. The box is based on the classic album “Dark Side of the Moon” and is a sure conversation starter. One my most prized possessions :)

Vintage Sofa from Shivajinagar, Bangalore

Preethi Maithri Prabhu says,

If you are on a shoe string budget, all you need to do is be persistent and keep looking. I found this old sofa in one of the bylanes of Shivajinagar. Cost me a fraction of what it would cost in a showroom.

Vinyl Records from Richmond Town, Bangalore

Ankit Sabharwal says,

Picked up some records at this place that has a huge collection of vinyl records from the music scene of the 60’s and 70’s. The LP covers are preserved and the artwork on them is just amazing. Each record costs around 250 bucks. Although the store has no signboards, it is easy to spot it on Berlie Street. The guy who runs the place happily lets you look around but you will need to find things on your own inside the store. The main store has three rooms worth of stuff just stacked around and another house next to the shop which is filled with more and more stuff. You can find large wall hangings, old photographs, vintage clocks, books, old furniture, boxes, vinyl records, photographs, rare collectibles, lamps, decorative items, toys, lots of junk and anything else you can imagine. Also, finding something that you like will take lots of patience. Best time to visit: Sunday mornings!
