It comes as no surprise that food and drinks are generally at the top of every Bangalorean’s mind -  especially on a Sunday. Bangalore is after all the pub capital of the country! About six months after we did our first Woopathon with the fabulous style divas of the city, Sunday saw the second edition kick-off with the top food connoisseurs coming together for a delightfully sunny afternoon of food, fun and frolic.

There was a treasure trove of delicious dishes being served along with some freshly brewed beer at the Prost Brewpub in Koramangala - the venue of Wooplr’s Foodie Woopathon.

The connoisseurs were then taken for a tour of the micro-brewery by Prost’s German brewmasters - Jonas& Oliver. This was naturally followed by a beer tasting session.

We caught up with her during her vacations for a quick chat on the things she loves about her city, her choices in food and shopping amongst other things. Read on…

Tell us a bit about yourself

I currently work at Time Out Mumbai and love every bit of my gorgeous city. I’m also a freelance photographer by profession and a foodie by choice. I love to capture life through my lens. Cupcakes, music and books are my mood-changers. I love to travel and explore different cultures. Little things in life mean a lot to me.

Which are your favourite brands?

My favorite brands would be Zara, Mac, HnM, Bath & Body Works, The Body Shop, Vero Moda and many more. If a girl ever answer’s this question, the list will surely be never-ending.

What is the craziest thing you have purchased?

The craziest thing I’ve ever purchased is a blonde wig. It’s golden with colorful streaks and crazy beyond words.

If you could splurge on one thing, what would it be?

I would splurge on cupcakes, like always :)

Which song is on loop on your iPod right now?

Wonderwall by Oasis

image

Your favourite shopping destination and your fav getaway?

My favorite shopping destination would be New York City. I could live there forever and just shop, shop and shop till I drop. My favorite getaway would be Dubai as it is a lively place with different cultures.

Street-shopping or the shopping malls?

A bit of both. I shop for anything I see and love, be it from the malls or the streets.

Who would you like to see most on Wooplr?

I would like to see Le 15, Pooja Dhingra’s famous dessert store on Wooplr. The desserts are delicious especially the macrons. I would also like to see The Home Label, Suzzane Roshan’s Interior brand. Her brand stocks very interesting interior aesthetics.

Those retro shopping recommendations are indeed timeless! Now to welcome back the glorious decades of the past, we are featuring the top recommendations on the retro theme over the last year.

Ann Loraine says,

This was one of my most surprising and best bargains upto date. A vintage Marilyn Monroe chain for just rupees 100. And well it was not bought from any of those high end boutiques but from from a street seller. Poor versions of Audrey Hepburn,Sophia Loren were also sold by him. But this chain had an extremely clear picture of the 60’s pin up doll Marilyn Monroe. So all the lover of vintage and junk jewellery make sure you do not miss any of those charming bazaar shops selling junk, you never know what you would end up discovering.

With the rain and the chill seeping into the Bangalore city bones, there’s nothing to warm your soul like good ol’ coffee, peanut butter chocolate crunch cookies and a good book with a little bling to spruce up the air. And of course, that perfect warm poncho to curl up in, on the couch. This week’s recommendations are a take on earth tones, chocolate and some glitz in the monsoons.

Speaking of weather, Bangalore seems to beg for warmth and a little sweet tooth satiation, which is being catered to at its very own Cupcake Festival, currently being held at the Tuck Shop in Koramangala. Head over, try the vast array of choices and do recommend your favorites!

Also, the Moustache bug has bitten us bad and we are now open to having you send us a picture of yourself sporting a moustache (real, fake, a hair moustache or maybe even a milk moustache) with a quote on what you think of the moustache. Wooplr elves are working hard to ensure that the ensuing goodie bags are full and appealing. Take a look at the blog later this week for more details on how to get these goodie bags.

Candid Quotes from the Uber Stylish Allen Claudius

The ‘Wonder Woople’ series features users who are passionate about fashion or food or both. They are the people who spot new, interesting  things and love self-expression. They are our taste makers, influencers and curators.

image

We have seen the women walk the walk on Wooplr. But it really blows our mind when a man pulls it off with style. Add a self assured personality with brutal honesty and you have before you, good ol’ Allen Claudius George. His specialty? Burping out the English alphabet. Working a day job with TCS and DJ’ing by night, Allen is a fashion enthusiast and find his release by writing about it. He prefers practicality in fashion and not fads or trends. He is an obsessive fitness enthusiast but has now resigned himself to the fact that he will never have single digit BMI; also claims to be a lot more stable about his shopping sprees now. We, though, will let you be the judge on that.

image

Being extremely materialistic, he loves his possessions a lot more than he loves people and he’s proud of it. He now tries to let go of the attachment by donating last season clothes & shoes! Also money plays a critical role for him as he strongly believe one can either earn money or one can earn love, respect and relationships. Ask him where he stands and he goes with the latter because they outnumber the former. He is a sucker for sales and uses retail therapy a lot more than he uses Bible to uplift his mood.

In Conversation…

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

What do you mean “if"???!!!

If you could splurge on one thing, what would it be?

Would have to be watches. I absolutely love watches. And shoes. So perhaps a Rolex Submariner or Deepsea Explorer II. Big fan of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak OffShore as well. Some day. Some day.

Which song is on loop on your iPod right now?

It’s this track I absolutely love, obviously. A remix by Bro Safari called Scumbag. It features Notorious B.I.G so it’s even better!

Your favourite shopping destinations?

I would have to say Mumbai for its ease, Manila for its variety and FX friendly economy (can you beat it, a Hoegaarden pint in an upscale bar costs INR 150), Dubai for the discounts and Europe for brands like H&M and that enable you to stay updated with the season’s trends.

If you were given a choice between going Street shopping vs. Shopping at malls, which one would you pick?

I think I am more of a boutique person? Individual stores is something I would pick over going to a mall or shopping by the street. Malls just save you the travel time between stores, I guess. Unless its food, then I prefer the street and yes, bring on the Pani Puri y’all!!

What are the craziest things you have ever purchased or had?

The craziest thing I have ever purchased and not “had" would have to be the Balut, during my pseudo vacation to Manila. Its this Filipino aphrodisiacal delicacy. It’s another thing that I couldn’t bring myself to eat it.

Who would you like to see most on Wooplr?

I guess it would have to be John Abraham. You know, people appreciate him for his physique but that man has some serious style. Whenever he covers those humungous muscles of his, its with some fine threads. And I am sure he will have plenty of Woople worthy stuff to show us from all the exotic locales he shoots at.

If we took a peek in to your refrigerator, what would we find?

2 cartons of Limited Edition Red Bull, cans of Pepsi/Tonic Water, a crate of Root Beer, pints ranging from Budweiser to Corona, Sausages and Salami, Eggs, my after shaves and perfumes (don’t ask me why), peanut butter, assorted cherry colas, a couple of bars of Lindt Dark Chocolate, Guava fruit juice, 2 bottles of home made wine (my mom is an ace vintner), Malibu liqueur, sauces and butter and my hair gel (it’s organic and needs refrigeration). I never cook, so don’t expect groceries in there, folks. My guests starve to death or drink and get merry. I forgot, ice cubes and water, of course.

Apple pie or Jalebi?

Can I not have both? If I “have" to choose, I will go with apple pie. Warm. With a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top…

Beer or…?

There can be no “OR" here. Its always “AND"… Beer for summer, Rum for winter, Whiskey for warm days, Sangria and port wine for a quick fix ;) And oh yes, I absolutely love Cider…

Tell us about your favourite pair of shoes and where you got them.

I love everything retro; guess I am at that phase in my life. I got this basic pair of Onitsuka Tiger 66 Mexico in Yellow and Black from my shopping spree in Philippines. It has been something I’ve had my eyes on for a few years but never managed to get my hands on. Which is why I treasure them a lot. And of course, I have these hand painted Converse with Batman on it. Which I have NEVER worn!

Favourite cuisine?

It has got to be Thai. Their cuisine is mind blowing. Weirdly enough, I haven’t gone to Thailand ever. Hmmm, must make it by end of this year.

A book or television?

Neither. A dog.

What shopping mantra/tips would you like to share with others?

If you find a good deal, don’t wait for it to get better. Just snag it. But if the purchase value is substantially high, I would recommend you sleep over it. Regardless of how far you had to travel. When you wake up, if you still feel you need it, just go and buy it and you will never regret it. Either ways.

If you could go out shopping with anyone for a day who would it be and why?

This is a hard one to crack. I don’t really know because I prefer shopping by myself. I pretty much know what I should/shouldn’t pick from all those disastrous shopping experiences and lessons learnt over many a wasted rupees. Same goes for eating. I guess I would love doing both with someone who loves doing it themselves. Unless, of course, it’s someone who will pay for everything that I pick or eat. In which case, that would have to be my girl friend. I live off her.

What are your guilty pleasures?

Can I say Porn? I guess not. So let me say the second best thing. Eating. Till I cannot breathe. I am a glutton and my food intake is monitored most of the time. People hide from family and smoke, I eat. Binge!

What would you love to find in your Christmas stocking?

I have been eying SUVs since my city car got busted by a pothole. Or that KTM Duke 390 that I rode and loved. Unless Santa can leave me a fit body with a BMI of 9%? Heck, I will even settle for Gisele Bündchen, Miranda Kerr or Mila Kunis. If I cannot have them all, that is.

What is the shopaholic’s spot you frequent most?

Weird thing but I would have to say, a coffee shop. In any shopping district. You will see tonnes of people with their shopping bags, so you know what store to visit before you begin. Haha.. I don’t really frequent a spot, I just spread out my buys from wherever I go.

Search and search alike
image

Currently in Beta, Wooplr introduces a limited search feature that provides you with auto suggest options spanning recommendations, people and businesses.

Love it, Recommend it, but do not ignore it
image

We have now made it easier for you to Love your favorite recommendations, by providing a ‘Love’ button for the recommendation on the streams. Talking of streams, we have also introduced three new streams on Wooplr which include:

  1. People I Follow: which contains the latest recommendations from the people you follow.
  2. Trending: Find out what is Haute to Trot this moment on Wooplr as we present you with a set of recommendations which are currently most popular.
  3. Everything: For those who love to experiment, we have all the latest recommendations coming in, gathered under a single stream (city-based or everywhere).

Various performance improvements have also ensured that the Wooplr website is much faster than before. Bugs have been fixed, machinery well oiled and the website simplified to provide you with a Wooplr that is as user friendly as they come.

Wooplr also, has some great news lined up for businesses & brands. The sign up and profiles for business is currently being piloted! All who are interested in having a brand/business page on Wooplr can visit the Wooplr Pitchdesk for more information on how to get aboard.

Also do drop us a mail with your take on the moustache. What makes it click, or what makes it tick.

Hello Wooples!

As shopaholics, we often have moments when we remember that shirt we saw last week. Shoot! Where had we seen it again?! Luckily, this quandary is one you shall no longer face as we are launching a first of its kind online storefront for small and medium businesses, thus bringing in social commerce in India!

Yep, now your shopping experience is more complete on Wooplr and can take a look at what your favorite shop has in stock for you this season while ensuring that those trusty recommendations are never too far away. The storefront is an excellent way for the business to increase its online reach while also engaging with their Wooples.

Do take a look at all that the storefront has to offer and if you’re a brand or run a business, be amongst the first to sign up for this exclusive storefront, right here on the Wooplr Pitchdeck.

image

Offering a brief sneak peek, the storefront comprises of recommendations clicked by your customers of products that they liked at the store. Prospective shoppers can then browse through the personalised recommendations and take a look at those products that interest them and contact the business directly with their enquiries and/or demands. The storefront also has the physical store locations, contact details and social profiles of the business. All orders and queries are delivered as mails and/or messages to the business and the customer can be contacted directly through a chosen source as well.

image

Basic features are free. Businesses can opt for one of our premium packages. The packages are tailored to suit different kinds of businesses and their needs. Further details are up on the Pitchdeck and queries could be emailed to us at hello@wooplr.com.

Trust us when we say that the storefront is incredibly easy to use and hassle-free. It’s designed keeping in mind the layperson who has just begun her/his home run business and is looking at the storefront as a means to grow and reach out to the larger shopaholic audience. Also all communication received at the storefront is directly sent to the associated mail ID and as a message on the contact number provided, which makes it a perfect mobile sales option for you. Add to it, that we don’t tie you up with contracts and there are no charges or conditions in fine print and it seems almost too good to be true!

image
And keeping the spirit high, we already have some of your favorite brands on board such as Aviraté and Indya Kaleidoscope as well as boutique stores, home studios and flea market brands such as No Strings Attached and Cupcake Noggins. If you run a business and are on Wooplr, you know you want this space. Get those creative juices flowing and mark your territory on Wooplr with a customizable storefront that screams out your ideology and products to the wooples.

Wooplr for brands can be accessed on the Wooplr website at www.wooplr.com/pitchdeck/business.

Frazer Town for the Frazzled Foodie Fever

Everyone has favourite seasons during the year. For some, it’s about the shopping and the fabulous dresses. For a few others, their love for the season is due to the crispness of the air and the way the sun shines. For us, different seasons are awesome purely because of the variety in food and the joy of a new palate, each time.

Infact, Ramadan always brings back memories of a lot of good food. The best part? Ramadan comes along every year, with the promise of fasting and absolution during the day and sinful, complete gluttony every single night. For all you folks out there who think one loses weight during the holy month of Ramadan, think again.

image

Staying away from food for those nerve wracking fourteen hours just makes one a lot more obsessive about exactly what to eat once you’re done with the fast. This Ramadan, Wooplr saw an interesting number of recommendations from the Frazer Town food stalls. And being an extremely foodie friendly office, we went ahead  to explore the delicacies on offer.

image

We did come back to office. Full to bursting. Barely able to drag ourselves through the door, replete and unable to look food in the face again. The Frazer Town food stalls are everything that Indian Muslim cuisine promises to be. Rich meats, sumptous desserts and spices which will throw all your senses into overdrive. Add to that, the feverish throng of people and one cannot stop their hands from picking up one of these delicacies.

Here are a few of our favorites from the spread and the recommendations we’ve recieved on Wooplr.

Malai Kheer

image

Lemon Chicken

image

Custard Pudding

Mouth watering barely describes it. Soft, rich and extremely easy on your palate. The pudding is rich but not overpowering.

image

Chicken Stick

image

Chicken Chargha

image

Chicken Shaslik

Super tender and served with a sauce to die for.

image

Mutton Sheekh Kebab

image

Patthar ka Goshth

image

Phirni

image

Shahi Tukde

Rich, creamy and well….. very rich.

image

Chicken Aloo Kebab

image

Balushahi

image

Roasted Quail (Teetar)

Another must-have from our side. Do try it. The quail is very well cooked and the spicy coating and cricp skin will leave you wanting more.

image

Kheema Anda Roti

image

Chicken Tikka

image

Patthar Kebab

image

Jumbo Prawns

image

Pista House Haleem and Biryani

You absolutely ‘cannot’ miss this! The haleem is smooth and creamy made with extremely tender mutton and lots of cream. A light squeeze of lemon on it, and the dish will play havoc with your tastebuds.

image

Sooji ka Halwa

image

Chicken Lollipos

image

Chicken Egg Kebab

image

'Salman Khan Hamour' Fish

image

Kheeme ke Samose

image

image

Cheesecakes in various flavours

image

Mutton Roast

image

Our verdict: Must try everything! Wooplr recommends: The Spicy Sweet crab and the smoked Camel meat Sheekh Kebabs.

Do make sure that trip to Frazer town takes place. And if not, well there’s always next year. Ramadan Kareem!

Tête-à-Tête with Fashion Co. - Wonder Wooples of the Week

There are blogs. And then you have a blog which screams personality. Warmth. Self confidence and passion. And they’re chatty. Chatty enough to remind you of conversations over tea, scones and green grasses. And they do the high tea with panache because they are neck deep in fashion and style. Meet Tripti and Ashima of The Fashion Co.They are animal lovers, design enthusiasts, novice photographers, handicraft addicts and shoe hoarders. And if they really, really like you, they promise to give you their last bite of dessert.

image
A young blog run by a passionate team, The Fashion Co. consists of people who have come together from different walks of life to express a mutual love for fashion. The blog serves as a diary where they each share their sartorial adventures as part of the Lookbook series. Take a look at these shopaholics and you will see they are avid collectors of meaningful quotes, family photographs, Indian jewelry, high heels and lost causes.
They are big believers in trying to achieve their dreams and reaching for the stars. Yes, we know, they leave you with a warm tingle and a smile on your face on reading about them. And that smile just keeps growing when you take a look at fashion and shopping through their eyes.

image

Quick questions with Tripti from The Fashion Co. …

What are the craziest things you have ever purchased or had?

Well, truth be told I haven’t eaten anything crazy. I once has the option of eating kangaroo meat, but luckily enough I backed out! The craziest thing would probably be a pizza dosa. Sounds gross but it’ s actually delicious! But when it comes to fashion though, 6 years ago, there was this beautiful Maang tikka that I had to purchase for a Bharatnatyam performance. I fell in love with it and wore it every chance I got. I even wore it for an Arabian nights themed prom in school.

The other crazy things that I have purchased include accessories inspired by animals. I own a necklace with giraffe pendant and a clutch with a snake as a clasp!

If you could splurge on one thing, what would it be?

An Ellie Saab Couture Gown or a JJ Valaya lehenga.

image

Which song is on loop on your iPod right now?

Daylight by Maroon 5

Young and beautiful by Lana Del Ray

Favourite shopping destination?

Delhi. It’s a great mix of high couture and street markets.

…and favourite getaway?

Anywhere with beautiful beaches. We love both Goa and Alibaug.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

Magic! Who wouldn’t want magic in their life!

image

If we took a peek in to your refrigerator, what would we find?

An assortment of cheese and dessert.

Apple pie or Jalebi?

Hot crispy jalebi please! The punjabi in us refuses to let us pick apple pie.

Schnappes or Breezer?

Well I don’t drink, so neither!

Shoes or Bags?

Bags. A great tote has been always been a weakness.

Favourite cuisine?

Thai and Italian food. They’re both so yummy. The perfect solution to a bad day!

image

What shopping mantra/tips would you like to share with others?

Most people find dressing themselves stressful as they aren’t really sure what suits them.Take the time to figure out what your style is. It is better to find a little time experimenting and getting to know what suits you, rather than blindly buying clothes just because they fall in your comfort zone. It’ll be worth the effort when you finally curate a wardrobe full of clothes that are comfortable to wear AND make you look fabulous.

Truth be told it doesn’t really matter where you shop from. We’ve been complimented for a lot of our thrifted buys, with tons of people asking us where we bought them from. What does matter though is the fit. If it doesn’t fit you or isn’t in your size, put it down and walk away.

You may think it will be worth it because it’s a great deal or because it’s on sale, but it won’t! You’ll never get down to actually getting it altered. It’s a big waste of effort and you’ll rather spend the time doing something more enjoyable.

And most importantly, have fun! Fashion isn’t meant to be serious, it’s a tool to express your personality. If you feel like wearing something, just wear it!  Don’t care about what the world thinks!

Lastly, attitude is more important than any label. If you don’t have the confidence to carry it off, even the world’s most expensive outfit won’t look good on you.

image

What are your guilty pleasures?

A new pair of shoes, freshly baked Indigo Deli cookies, spending time playing with my dog, a new sketchbook , chaat - especially pani puri, pretty stationary and hanging out with my loved ones.

Who would you like to see most on Wooplr?

Sonam Kapoor - It would be very interesting to see her unique fashion picks.

We have a new joinee today at Wooplr. His skillsets involve taking three hour naps and walking across one’s keyboard. He sounds like a dream and is extremely amicable (after the first few sniffs and hisses, of course). Meet Kimchi, the new man at the Wooplr office.

image

He decided to stroll into our pet friendly office today, like a boss, and has found his spot in every person’s lap, effectively ensuring that said person has no option but to type away and work on their system else risk the wrath of his teensie, super sharp claws.

image

You’ve already met Chintu Dog, Wooplr,s guardian and knight in fluffy armour. He is also the first pet of our extremely pet friendly office. We’d love it if you’d drop by the office and say hi  to Kimchi and Chintu. Looks like the cat n dog tale at Wooplr has begun!

What's in a moustache?

$
0
0

A trend-setter, a statement; the moustache has been a revolutionary in its own right. You ask why? We say it’s because people just can’t seem to keep their hands of them, whether on the face of the man or around the neck as a personal statement of style. The moustache has hit it big time.

Today the ultra male moustache is undergoing a transformation. No longer does it remain the ultimate symbol of masculinity, as it was deemed earlier. Today the moustache is something women sport and proudly associate themselves with.

image

As an ode to our gorgeous womenfolk wooples, Wooplr launches The Moustache Campaign: a week long campaign where we provide the moustache with an equal ground to grow. We believe in breaking the gender stereotype that says the moustache is only associated with males and aim to provide you with the woman’s take on the moustache.

Take part

Be a part of the change Wooplr aims to bring about:

  • Send us a snap of yourself sporting a moustache.
  • Send us a quote that tells us exactly what makes the moustache quirk for you before August 22nd.

We will make a photo quote out of it representing exactly what the moustache means to you.

Say yes to the moustache, and not just on men.

Welcome to the 'Stache Boulevard: a place where women have cited their honest and extremely frank (blunt?) thoughts regarding the moustache in recent time.

The Moustache Week has been a revelation for Wooplr. The moosh is no longer an ultra male accessory, it has become an opinion, a style statement that defines all genders subjectively. Infact most women seem to prefer the moustache off their men.

So while all you men out there give a thought to what your new alpha symbol would be, here’s what the women have to say about the moustache.

We give you, The Moustache Boulevard:

An interesting happening through the campaign has been a recurring question from the officials. Through the campaign time and again, Wooplr women have been asked: why are women sporting the moosh when it is something absolutely male?

The Moustache Campaign aims to make the moustache a gender neutral accessory for everyone, be it on their face or their clothes. And to say the same we have our official Moochie Walk today. Join us at 4 p.m. on Church Street at Coconut Grove and sport the moosh to make your say. Here’s to making the moosh a gender neutral symbol that everybody can sport with style
