Friday, the 23rd saw the women of Bangalore manning up to sport the moustache.
Wooplr launched The Moustache Campaign as an attempt to amalgamate fashion and social awareness using the moustache as a symbol of a free and equal woman, who isn’t held down by societal constraints or clichéd stereotypes.
Part of the campaign was The Moochie Walk which was organised on Church Street and Brigade Road this Friday. Participant women walked along the streets, shopped and went about their regular agenda while sporting the moustache. heads turned, people whispered and crowds tittered. The walk actually reinforced that it’s only when one asks questions that gender stereotypes can be broken and myths are busted. The why’s and how’s of the status quo for women were discussed with passersby and the fever caught on. The whole street did sport the moustache - men, women and children.
We had businesses participating in the campaign as well. Coconut Grove, Krispy Kremeand The Only Place joined the campaign with much enthusiasm to sport the moustache. Sponsors Cupcakeryand Liqaish made the walk that much more fun with chocolates and cupcakes.
All in all it does seem like it’s only with a bit of humour that one can look at leveling these long prevalent societal concerns. for those of you who missed out on the walk, we have put together a quick collection of snapshots.
Take a look at the Moochie Walk through the Wooplr lens:

Ketki feels tres Parisienne

We bumped into them right outside Coco Grove…

And they found us an equivalent original Moosh.

The other Ayesha on behalf of Cupcakerysports the moustache too!

They stopped to read… To listen…

And then joined us to participate!

We did have a feel of the backstage at a Fashion Week. They look gorgeous with the moustache as well.

And KrispyKreme joins the bandwagon!

The femme fatale prevailed. Much hair was flipped, and killer looks were thrown over the shoulder

And then the ‘staches moved to make way for food!

A few more originals to be proud of come Movember.

Sisters in crime - The 3 Moustacheers.

Because good times ultimately lead to The Only Place!

The walk hit the right chords. Let us live by the spirit of the walk and sport the moustache in our daily life as well. Meanwhile take a look at the photo quotes posted on Wooplr’s Facebook page and help the participants win that elusive goodie bag!

Our wonder woople this week is a multi faceted person. One of the most avid recommenders on Wooplr, Pallavi Ruhail is a doctor and an epidemiologist by profession, but as she claims, that’s just the nerd side in her. She practically breathes fashion. Thick, creamy, luxuriant and sinful - nothing is quite as hedonistic in foods as chocolate. Made out of the cocoa bean and originally the basis of an energy drink used by soldiers, most eaters of chocolate now report a tendency to dose after indulging in the various forms of chocolate. And, lest we forget, they feel like they’re in love.
Chocolate comes in various forms, across different spectrums of colour, foods in which it is used, and the kind of taste and effect it has. Anyone who has not had the occasion to have a steaming hot chocolate after getting drenched in the rain does not know what it feels like to be enveloped in a warm cloud of contentment, and a feeling of comfort. Those of us who have been lucky enough to have a chocolate chip cookie and a glass of warm milk at our grandparents will know the sense of belonging and happiness it brings. A creamy chocolate cake covered in chocolate syrup had with a loved one is likely to be a freshly baked memory of romance that is likely to stick through the ages (pun intended). Chocolate has by now become a byword for everything desirable - and we should celebrate this mood enhancing, desire inducing, and comfort giving food.

Agratha Dinakaran prefers a “warm, moist plain chocolate cake fresh out of the oven” because of its simplicity and freshness. She adds that chocolates mean “comfort, warmth and a solution to life’s problems.”

Monika Manchanda says - “Chocolate is my pick me up, my comfort and one of my favourite ingredients to work with when it comes of desserts. Like someone said ‘Save Earth, its the only planet with Chocolate’.”
So on this occasion of International Chocolate Day, let us celebrate this versatile and universally popular food - a gastronomic miracle, chocolate has something for everyone, for every mood, and then some.
In case you’re not sure how to celebrate this wonderful day, recommendations from the wooples follow.
Chocolate Recommendations from the Wooples
Preeti Maitri Prabhu recommends the Chocolate Fantasy Cake at Cafe Coffee Day
Agratha Dinakaran recommends the Chocolate Bombat Little Italy, Bangalore
Koel Das recommends the Chocolate Mint Pastry at cafe Noir, UB City, Bangalore
Shwetha Jagannath recommends the Chocolate Dessert at Cake Botique, Bangalore
Disha Bhandari recommends the Chocolate Mousse at Deli9

Aanchal Mathur recommends the Chocolate Cake at The Good Food Cafe, Delhi
Anuja Deora recommends the Chocolate Vertigo at Mocha, Bangalore
The FoodPorn Diaries recommends the Belgian Truffles at Jus’ Trufs, Bangalore
Saina Jayapal recommends the Chocolate Truffle Cake at Daily Bread, Bangalore
Eipe Koshy recommends the Chocolate Truffle Cake at Hot Breads, Chennai
Share with us today your favourite form and manner in which to have chocolate - let’s see your deepest and most delicious chocolate fantasy. Because if one had to leave this world, at least I personally would choose Death By Chocolate.

Cutting edge fashion sense and a sarcastic sense of humour make for a great read. And Moda Ninja has hit the nail on the head with the combination. Though Pallavi Singh and Gurpreet Talwar, aka Sneaky and Cheeky Ninja handle different day jobs, their love for fashion makes both of them amazing bloggers with a strong and quirky sense of style. Ask them for a few words about themselves and they don the Ninja hat and go.
Gurpreet– On the blog, I go as Cheeky Ninja. The name defines a part of my personality that is uninhibited and it allows me to write using my tongue in cheek humor. For me, style is all about making it work for your body type and carrying it off like you own the world! I am inspired by the likes of Trinity and Susanna from What Not to Wear and strive hard to write about adopting ongoing trends from the ramp to the wardrobe.
I do have a weakness for branded bags, discounted stilettos, make up and accessories. A right mix of these can make a sack look ‘red carpet’ worthy!
Pallavi – I am Sneaky Ninja and one half of Moda Ninja. I enjoy dabbling in different things; though on the flip-side I often get bored quickly. My style too fluctuates and I dress up as per mood or day or occasion. Fashion is not just about what you wear but how you wear and I like to experiment with clothes and looks. I have travel bug and try to go to at least two places I have never been before every year. Love for food and fashion follows closely on the heels.
Conversation over Coffee with the Ninjas
What are the craziest things you have ever purchased or had?
G: When I was 17, I was in Manali on a trek and I bought myself a pair of red and yellow pants with multi color thread work on it and wore clubbing in Pune. People thought I was crazy, I look at it as foresight! But in recent times I have been quite sane with my buys or may I say they haven’t caught as many eyeballs, perhaps because now people are more accepting.
P: Can’t really think of any, I think I am a good buyer.
If you could splurge on one thing, what would it be?
G: If I am splurging it would probably be on an incredibly luxurious and long holiday in the Mediterranean.
P: If I could splurge on one thing it would be Burberry classic trench coat.
Your favourite shopping destination and your favourite getaway?
G: Shopping in Bangkok tops my list. Not cheap, thanks to the rupee falling but just the sheer variety you get whether it’s fashion or home décor is incredible. I’d favorite any getaway that has the ocean, silver soft sand and my hubby!
P: Since I have really tiny feet and a shoe addiction, I never get my size in most stores and brands. I love Singapore where I had no trouble finding my size and I would love to go back and shop there. Sarojini Nagar is my absolute favorite shopping destination. That place is a gold mine if you have time and patience.
I love to travel and find it difficult to name one place but I think I can go back again and again to New York.
Who would you like to see most on Wooplr?
P: Sonam Kapoor, she definitely is the most stylish celebrity in India with the most envious closet.
Beer or Whiskey?
G: Whiskey in the evening – beer at brunch !
P: Whiskey
Apple pie or Jalebi?
G: What?!! No dark chocolate?
P: Jalebi with rabri please
Favourite cuisine?
G: This is tough, I am a big foodie but when given a choice I’d pick between Asian (Thai, Malay) and Arabic.
P: Continental, Asian.
What shopping mantra/tips would you like to share with others?
G: Alternate between buying classical and experimental pieces.
P: Invest in basics like jackets, well fitted black trousers, well fitted denims and go street shopping for trends. Basics define your shape and will last you for years so it is wise to spend more and investing in brand for trends (like neon which is a rage now) will be a goner next season.
What are your guilty pleasures?
G: Branded bags, single malt and dark chocolate.
P: Shoes especially boots, statement neckpieces and rings, Lindt dark chocolate and Godiva dark chocolate with raspberry.
If you could go out shopping with anyone for a day (or dine with someone special for an evening) who would it be and why?
G: Shopping with Trinity and Susanna – There is so much to learn! Or Shopping with Oprah if she was spending :D
P: Can I please get dinner with Bradley Cooper :D
So, if given a choice between going Street shopping or Shopping at malls, which one would you pick?
G: I’d do street if I had someone good at bargaining with me!
P: I hate malls, I find them claustrophobic. It is street shopping for me.
Who’s better at haggling? How good are your bargaining skills?
G: I suck at haggling, Pallavi most definitely is the better half in this case :D
P: I bargained and haggled in sign language and on a calculator in China so I think I can do it anywhere.

Independence Day played out to be perfect this year with the Weber experience. A lazy day off had a whole host of thrill added to it with a barbecue on the house.

Moments of apprehension: How does one light this barbecue?

Moment of apprehension melting away as the hunger pangs hit instead.
Weber Stephen, Bangalore invited Wooplr for a fun cooking session at the Weber Experience Center. Well, point to be noted, a barbecue is a multipurpose tool for a well equipped kitchen. Baking and grilling on the barbecue was a piece of cake (and we had that as well later).

Very Cinderella-esque, but the effort was definitely worth it.
Cooking on a barbecue is not a single person’s task. Also one realises that the more, the merrier rule applies. At this particular cookout there was lots of food, lots of fun people and the casual chatter which will be remembered over the following few Sundays over the aromas of a nicely cooked pie.

The making of the Malabar Stuffed Chicken

Mushrooms!

The menu was quite extensive. We made Pizzas, Malabar Stuffed Chicken, Shashlik Sizzlers and Paneer Tikka and satiated the cravings of the sweet tooth with some delectable Apple Pie and Chocolava Cake. In short, the perfect holiday lunch. And all of it made on a barbecue!

Some healthy stuff that we ensured became unhealthy with generous helping of dressings and olive oil.

Well, to do justice to the wonderful barbecued food, we ate until we were stuffed. And then we ate some more just for good measure. The experience of the barbecue was not one of standing in one spot and cooking good food. It was more. It’s the experience of mingled joy in making a meal, something that is loved, with a group of people you enjoy spending time with. There’s as much an abundance of camaraderie as there is of food and laughter.

Chicken Shashlik Sizzlers with homemade barbecue sauce

Proud chefs of the day with some of their works of culinary art

'Lazy bones' moments after the food and that one last group photograph.
We’d say go ahead and give the Weber experience a shot. Because it’s not just about barbecuing on a weekend afternoon, but it’s about making a meal with the accompaniments of care, sharing and some creativity.

Excitement is in the air again! Besides a bunch of holidays, Navratri is coming up soon and everyone seems to be planning their Dandiya night outfit. Like we’d said earlier this is just the start of the festival season. Let us know wat you buy and what you gift this season so we may take a leaf out of your book. After all, isn’t the spirit of all festivals derived from the concept of sharing and love?
Winter has also cast its grey chill on most places and we see the need for reach food, savoury coffees and lots of warm snacks. Take a look at the recommendations as we give you some wine, some chocolate and some clothing for these festive winter-ish times.

"Ain’t no feeling quite like sitting at dusk under a setting sun, sipping from that ice cold bottle."

It’s that time of the year again when we celebrate man’s best friend through good times and bad. Welcome to The Great Oktoberfest Chronicles, where Wooplr celebrates the largest global beer festival!
Putting it mildly, we quote from an anonymous friend that “beer is the bubbly froth of life on which friendship is built." The best plans, the best pranks, the best conversations, all tend to be accompanied by beer.
Another quick quote comes in which says 'Without beer, I wouldn't have my belly; nor would I have half the experiences that have made my heart and soul what it is.” Rich, isn’t it?

Making the beer festival fancier for you, we give you a pub crawl of the best Oktoberfests in Bangalore this season. Brace yourself, gird your loins and grab hold of that mug, because we don’t intent to let you stop chugging till the festivities end.
Don’t wait too much. What with the vast variety of beers and original brews you have to try out, there ain’t all that much time to ponder. To begin with our own Oktoberfest specials, we give you a quick run through the beer recommendations we have on Wooplr which you should definitely not miss out on!

Bangalore never fails to rise up to an occasion. Throw in a can of beer and you know you’re in for a stunner. And such was the case with The Great Indian October Festival in Bangalore.

Here’s what we saw, what we loved and what we got back from the Oktoberfest 2013. Take a look!

Beginning in 2005, the Great Indian Oktoberfest is hosted by United Breweries and is a a fun melting pot of various different beers across the Kingfisher brand.
It also plays host to some brilliant music. The highlight of the 3 day festival was Hoobastank's performance on Saturday evening! The line up featured the best; Raghu Dixit Project, All the Fat Children, Clown with a Frown, Avial and DJ Miller to name a few

Kingfisher also organised a string of games under it’s Beer-lympics banner. While it did keep things lively and fun, the beer and the ambience took prime pride of place. The best bit of the Oktoberfest for us; definitely the Mobile Kingfisher Bar mounted on a jeep.

The place got the mood bang on with fairy lights, food, games and a touch of grunge. The beer included all the varieties Kingfisher had to offer. Add the people, the music and the weather and you had the perfect setting for a lazy fun weekend.

Bangalore’s appreciation for a good brew is at it’s best at the Oktoberfests. It’s quite obvious that one starts off the evening enjoying their beer, nursing it with that relaxed feeling and then as the evening builds on, enjoying ones beer takes on a different meaning.

For the fashion conscious, JD Institute of Fashion Design organised a showcase of collections and designs by their students. Themes covered ranged from Leather bunnies to M F Hussain and his art. The students also set up a stall with the products so one could go ahead and buy their favorites, right away. Here’s a sneak peek at the designs (keep an eye out on the blog for the whole showcase soon).

A special mention here is in order for the Harley Owners Club Bangalore, who put up their own showcase with those lean, mean machines.

Upping the oomph, this Oktoberfest was also host to Kitsch Mandi. Between the shopping, the beer and the fantastic music, the weekend just couldn’t have gotten better.

If you are looking out to still celebrate Oktoberfest in Bangalore we suggest you head over to Barleyz, Prost, Troika or Dublin. For the Pune folks, celebrate the post Weekender Haze at Doolally Craftworks with their amazing Oktoberfest.

We suggest you don’t put those mugs down! It’s only the start of a long year of chugging beer.

What does you do when the day is done and you want a chilled mug of beer to nurse between your hands? Head to Barleyz, this Oktoberfest we say.

Barleyz is hosting a month long Oktoberfest alongside their amazing Sunday brunches. The restaurant is perfect across all ages with five different ambiences to cater to different moods at the same time. Under the Barleyz banner, the Barleyz Sky Lounge and the Barbeque Garden are where the Oktoberfest hits you hard. The beer games, the festivity and the infectious cheer makes you run to grab a mug from the bar.

The Barleyz Sunday Brunch Spread
The lower floor houses three more restaurants, namely iChin for Indo Chinese fine dining, Future Disco for the party hoppers looking for a good time and Cafe Liqueur, a dessert cafe.

Ask Ashish why one should indulge in a frothing mug of beer and pat comes the reply - It’s more nutritious than a glass of milk! Well, what can one say to that except take a sip? Barleyz also has 6 different beers on tap and a special Oktoberfest brew. On tap, you get:
Belgium Wit
German Lager
Irish Stout
English Pale Ale
Barleyz special (Indian Jaggery Ale)
American Blonde, and

Professional golfer Sharmila Nicollet grabs a drink at Barleyz
In the Oktoberfest spirit we tried out their Oktoberfest specials; which includes unlimited beer and one of three platters:

The German Sausage Platter

Beer Battered Sea Food Platter

The Thai Chicken Platter

The Mediterranean Pizza with Chef Arindam’s special thin crust base.
If you’re lucky and Chef Arindam gets some time off from his hectic schedule, he will charm you with few of his specials. We sampled an exclusive chocolate dessert platter from his kitchen.

The yummy specials platter consisted of a Dark Chocolate Brownie with Blueberry Sauce and a luscious Chocolate Mousse
The brewery also has the place decorated in the spirit of Oktoberfest with a tinge of Halloween. There’s a model of the brewery set up to explain the process of brewing beer which Chef gladly walked us through. There are also samples placed to show you the different grain used.

Chef Arindam with a mug of the Belgium Wit.

The Oktoberfest is a celebration of beer and currently Barleyz has got that bang on. If you’ve time head there this weekend, and if you don’t we suggest you carve some out for it.

Next post, we shall run you through few more Oktoberfests around Bangalore city. Till then, keep chugging!

Hosting fashion, preferences and choices on Wooplr is a means for us to see that each woman makes a statement. She voices out her mind and demands the respect due to those words. Ring the Bell works to bridge that gap for the Indian woman.
One of the main issues today is the dissemination of the right information to the right people. To help with the same, Bell Bajao is launching video vans around Karnataka from the 12th to the 26th of November. Video Vans are an alternative means to spread Breakthrough’s mass media messages.

The Bell Bajao vans provide information on domestic violence against women, the different kinds of violence faced, ways for negotiation for safer sex, discrimination faced by HIV+ women, issues regarding masculinity & asking men and boys to end violence against females as well as protective that one can seek out as a victim to any of the fore mentioned issues. Flyers, pamphlets, t-shirts, badges, caps and posters are also distributed.
With each show being just about 2 hours long, make sure you don’t miss the street theatre troupe and the games & quizzes that accompany the campaign across cities!

Follow the video vans as they make their way across cities in India. Keep yourself safe and updated, you never know whom you might help out.
